  • Ride Bikes – Whether the kids can already ride a bike or they have yet to learn, spring is the perfect time to take to the streets. Whether you’re hitting the local trails or sticking to neighborhood sidewalks, families of all ages and sizes are sure to have a blast!
  • Camping – Taking to the great outdoors in summer can be miserable, what with all the heat and humidity. Fortunately, spring offers the perfect weather for camping. Set up the tent in the backyard, prepare a small fire, roast marshmallows, and tell scary stories. Just be sure to check the weather first to ensure it isn’t going to rain!

Tips for Spring Cleaning

Warmer weather is finally rolling in across the country which means it’s time to start spring cleaning. From the windows to the cabinets, there’s a lot to do and most people don’t have a lot of time to clean. We here at Lancaster Nissan have a few tips for spring cleaning that will help you get a great start to a wonderful season!

  • Windows – While you may want to start with something easy on a sunny day, the windows aren’t the place. Warm sunlight can dry window cleanser before you have the chance to wipe it away, dirt and grime in tow. Dry window cleaner tends to leave ugly streaks that can put a damper on anyone’s drive for spring cleaning. Wait for a cloudy day to tackle the windows.
  • Doormats – There are few places that see more dirty shoes than doormats. If you haven’t already, adding a doormat immediately inside the house can catch any lingering dirt that didn’t come off on the outdoor mat. Make sure to shake and wash the mats thoroughly!
  • Brooms – A broom is generally thought of a tool used to clean, not something that needs cleaning. Even so, a broom still needs to be cleaned thoroughly. Use warm water or a vacuum to get rid of any dirt embedded in the bristles.

Believe it or not: Spring is already just around the corner. Whether you’ve noticed the rising temperatures or the chirping birds, it’s time to alter your vehicle to prepare it for spring weather, as opposed to the chilly hazards of winter.

Here are some quick tips to prepare your car for spring:

  • Examine your tires, looking for pressure, tread, and alignment. If you’ve been using winter tires, consider switching back to all-season.
  • Refill your windshield wiper fluid, which will be desperately needed in the upcoming buggy season.
  • Make sure that you are up to date on your latest oil change, and if not, be sure to get your oil changed properly, and perhaps even your oil filter.
  • Double check that your air conditioning is working and that the air it provides is fresh and clean. You won’t want to find yourself stuck in a stuffy car.
  • Explore how your battery has held up after a long winter. If you’re not sure what to look for, consider the help of a professional.
  • And lastly, take “spring cleaning” seriously, giving your car a thorough cleaning both inside and out.

The Origin of the Shamrock and Other St. Patrick’s Day Traditions

St. Patrick’s Day Traditions

Everyone is familiar with the shamrock, leprechauns, etc. – but do you know where these St. Patrick’s Day traditions started?

The weather is getting warmer, the birds are starting to chirp, and spring is nearly upon us. You know what that means: St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner! Everyone is familiar with the shamrock, leprechauns, etc. – but do you know where these St. Patrick’s Day traditions started?

While the tradition of shamrocks has been debated, one thing is clear. Today, they clearly represent Irish heritage and history. It’s been said the shamrocks represent the rebirth of spring, and many claim that St. Patrick himself used the three leaves of the shamrock to represent the Christian Holy Trinity.

St. Patrick himself – by the way – was not actually Irish. In fact, he was born in Britain, kidnapped by Irish pirates, and discovered his faith while he was under their control. Even after he was freed, he returned to Ireland to spread his beliefs as a missionary.

Lastly, leprechauns have a long tradition in Irish folklore, from the Irish word “luchorpán,” which means “little body.” Different stories depict leprechauns differently, but one thing is almost always certain: they sure do love gold.

This St. Patrick’s Day, please drive safe, and if you have any concerns about your vehicle or if you would to explore a new one, feel free to stop by and visit us anytime here at Lancaster Nissan!

New Nissan AutoMobili-D Event Showcases Green Tech

Nissan AutoMobili-D event

Nissan Leaf

The Nissan AutoMobili-D event was recently held at the North American International Auto Show, also called the Detroit Auto Show. AutoMobili-D was an exposition that is dedicated to the global automotive community, including more than 100 companies and environmental groups. The idea was to develop the next generation of automotive designs, and Nissan hopes to be a major part of that process.

Nissan provided keynote addresses, research, and sponsor events. Recently, Nissan sponsored a live-music event that was entirely power by the Nissan LEAF, demonstrating the potential this new vehicle has. In fact, Nissan is now widely considered the pioneer in the electric vehicle movement.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to show the LEAF-to-Home system at AutoMobili-D,” said Brian Maragno, director, Nissan EV Sales and Marketing. “Nissan has been a pioneer in ‘Vehicle-to-Home’ technology and a leader in its global adoption and we look forward to exploring the potential of this system, as well as the ‘Vehicle-to-Building’ and ‘Vehicle-to-Grid’ solutions in the very near future.”

Nissan is focusing largely on the LEAF-to-Home system in the US, a system that is more popular overseas. This system lets you use the LEAF to power your home like a conventional generator would, except with zero emissions. This is just one step towards true progress, and Nissan is a key part in it.

Valentine’s Day Gifts for Car Lovers

Valentine’s Day Gifts for Car Lovers

Looking for the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day? It can be difficult to shop for the car lover in your life, which is precisely the reason we’ve provided a list of gifts for car lovers. Whether you’re at the beginning of a relationship or you’ve been married for years, we’ve got some useful recommendations in mind.

According to Safelite, one of the best things to buy for your significant other is a car wash kit. Include things like a chamois cloth, wax, premium wash, and microfiber cloths. These things can help to make your valentine’s ride shine. Also, think about getting alloy or chrome polish as well.

Next, consider buying a night or two at a hotel a few hours away. Car lovers usually love road trips, so this may be the perfect opportunity to drive all day and spend some quality time together. Road trips are great for seeing the world, and when there is no rush it’s nice to enjoy the scenery and stops. Plus, it can be especially romantic around dusk.

Finally, consider a remote car starter. Mornings can be cold, and a car starter is a great way to show consideration. Your loved one can set the controls to warm and start the car from a distance, providing a warm atmosphere as soon as you start driving. Though seemingly small, this gift will show how much you really care.

Proven Tips for Keeping New Year’s Resolutions

Keeping New Year's Resolutions

New Year’s resolutions are a tradition all around the US. However, many people fail to keep their resolutions, even past the end of January. While that might shock a few, many of us have tried and failed to keep resolutions in the past. That’s why we’ve put together a list of tips for keeping New Year’s resolutions.

Believe it or not, medical experts have suggestions for helping you keep your resolutions. Many psychiatrists, according to WebMD, suggest exercising to help you kick bad habits. This suggestion is for people who are resolved to give up smoking, eating junk food, or drinking, for example. Whenever you get the urge to break your resolution, try working out. Believe it or not, it can increase the likelihood that you are successful by up to 27%.

Next, take it slow. By this we mean make one resolution at a time. If you’re initial goal is to get in shape by losing 20 pounds, quitting smoking, and quitting junk food, this may make realistic goals harder to achieve. Focus on one small task at a time—by breaking it up, you’re much more likely to succeed at all of your goals.

Finally, use visual cues. As evidenced by researchers at Tufts University, keeping a photo of your goal can increase the odds that you’ll achieve it. For example, get a photo of a thinner you (perhaps from years ago) to put on the fridge as motivation. Get a photo of a vacation destination for your wallet to help you reduce unnecessary spending. You get the picture.

These tips are statistically proven to help you succeed at your New Year’s resolutions. Nevertheless, the most important thing to remember is persistence. If you failed last year, be sure to try again. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you fail—those who persist tend to succeed.

Winter Car Care Checklist: The Essentials

winter car care

Winter can be especially harsh on your vehicle. That’s why we’ve put together a list of winter car care tips to help you keep your car running in the cold temperatures and snowy conditions. From wipers to tires, there are some helpful reminders for winter driving. Read on to learn more.

According to AutoTrader, one of the most important things to do is check your lighting. Many drivers forget that the sun sets earlier in the winter, which means you’ll rely on lighting more than ever. The lighting also operates on the electrical system, which takes a particular toll in cold temperatures. Replacing bulbs and taking a few minutes to make sure everything is working could make a huge difference.

Next, top off your fluids. This includes the basics like oil and transmission fluid. However, you should also be sure to get antifreeze/coolant for the winter. While water will do in warm climates, you’ll need an antifreeze mixture for winter to prevent the engine block from cracking. Most antifreeze actually works better when mixed with water (as opposed to pure antifreeze), so check for 50/50 mixtures when shopping around.

Finally, check the tires. Tire pressure dips in cold temperatures, so be sure to top off pressure when the winter comes around. Also, look for cracks, bulges, and low tread. Consider buying winter tires for the season, tires made with special rubber compounds to hold up in low temperatures. Winter tires also have deep grooves to divert water and thick treads for added grip.
